Lark in the Dark

Dream Catchers

Saturday 15th September saw 301 Brownies arrive at Cudham Campsite for Lark in the Dark – an overnight camp for London South West Brownies. Many of the girls had never been away with Brownies before (nor had some of the leaders!) so it was a great experience for all our participants.

The girls arrived on 7 coaches from accross SW London and on arrival their baggage (all 800 pieces!) went into the 7 giant marquees. After a quick exploration the girls settled down in their “constellation” groups to make some dream catchers. After a huge delivery of fish and chips had been recieved and distributed for dinner (all 400 portions worth!), the after dinner activities began. Marshmallow toasting, parachute playing, face painting and lots more, with the culmination of the evening being a huge campfire. You could hear the singing all the way round the whole campsite! Bedtime couldn’t come sooner for some of the Brownies who fell asleep as soon as their heads touched the pillows.

Bright and (very!) early, the girls were up and breakfasted and ready for their morning’s challenge of a scavenger hunt and some rocket building -our Region Chief Commissioner was even on hand to judge the rockets! As the camp drew to a close, it was time for the Brownies to climb the hill to the coaches and be homeward bound.

Many thanks to all the team who worked so hard to put LID together, and to all the leaders and parents that gave their weekend to Lark in the Dark. Here’s some thoughts from some of the Putney Brownies about their time away:

“Thank you for such a memorably fun camping weekend – Ella has come back breathless with excitement about her weekend, she has utterly loved it all!”

“I wanted to thank you so so much for Mimi and Evie’s wonderful Lark in the Dark. They had such an exciting, adventurous time, and were buzzing about it until bedtime….just perfect, so thank you for giving up your time and organising it all..I’m sure it was so much work….it means a lot.”

“Just wanted to say a huge thanks to you and the team. Lottie had a top time and is full of stories tonight!”
