Croatia Summer 2011

Girlguiding London South West County International Trip 2011 – Croatia

24 members of London South West Guides spent 10 days exploring parts of Croatia and Italy during Summer 2011.

The adventure started off in Pula (north west Croatia) and here there were lots of days relaxing on the beach, scuba diving, snorkeling, white water rafting and a lot of sightseeing in Pula. We saw an Amphitheatre, shopped in the Forum, got used to spending some ‘Kuna’ (money), ate lots of pizza and ice creams and took a lot of photos.

We then travelled by boat to a small island off the coast of Croatia called Losinj. We arrived into the Harbour which was beautiful and spent 3 days on the island. We had a programme at the Marine Education Centre where we learnt a lot about their work with Dolphins, how to identify them, marine wildlife and how to find them and the highlight of the programme was a boat trip to search for Dolphins. This was an amazing success and we saw a group of about 8 Dolphins and the excitement on the boat couldn’t be contained. We also visited a ‘Garden of Scents’ and had a coastal workshop on the sea front.

Our community project was undertaken in Veli Losinj where we helped a local school clean up their playing area. We had to weed plants, remove rubble, clear rocks and stones, rake the grass areas and finally wash down all the surfaces (really meaning having a water fight!)

After our wonderful stay in Pula, we then moved onto Venice and some more sightseeing. We visited the Rialto Bridge for some shopping, had lots of trips on the Vaperettos, walked over many canals, visited St Marks Square and of course had a trip on a Gondala.

After an amazing 10 days the group returned to London very excited, a little bit tired and full of exciting stories to share with all their family and friends….
