Senior Section

Grey_SpectacularLogo_CMYKSenior Section is the Section for young women aged 14-18. We are all about fun and adventure and even more decision making than in the other three sections. For us, the sky is the limit! Think trips abroad, outdoor adventures and challenging current thinking! If you come into one or more of these categories, you are part of the Senior Section family!

This is the year to CELEBRATE! The Senior Section celebrates 100 years. Find out more below and stay tuned for exciting events throughout the year…

  • Senior Section Unit Members – there are six Senior Section units all over Girlguiding London South West so there is likely to be one near you! Some of us meet weekly, some of us meet every other week and others meet a few times a month; we even work around exams and school in the Summer Term! Our programme is based on “Look Wider” – unlike the Guides who have Go For Its, we try activities in eight octants including “International”, “Leadership” and “Personal Values.”
  • Young Leaders- if you are aged between 14 and 18 you can help out with a unit in another section. There is a great qualification you can work on with the support of a mentor. You will develop confidence and leadership skills and have great fun!
  • Peer educators – peer educators (in4mers) plan and administer sessions for other units on sometimes difficult topics. At the moment, they are particularly involved in the WAGGGS initiative “Free Being Me” – to find out more about Free Being Me, check out this link http://www.girlguiding.org.uk/get_involved/peer_education/free_being_me.aspx
  • Duke of Edinburgh Volunteers – you can work towards your Duke of Edinburgh Award through Girlguiding or with school and volunteer in a local unit. There is no obligation to complete your Young Leader Qualification but it can be a great way to improve on the skills you’ve learnt!

There is a dedicated national website with even more information about the opportunities available for Senior Section here.
