I have been involved in Guiding all my life in various roles. As joint county commissioner I am responsible for overseeing & supporting guiding in the county. This may be chasing people to complete mandatory trainings & recruitment checks, helping to organise events, sharing information and ensuring volunteers feel appreciated. I\u2019m also a Brownie, Guide and Ranger leader and a trainer. In my spare time I enjoy bird watching and am often out & about with my camera & binoculars.<\/p>\n

I am a Guide leader and the co-District Commissioner for Battersea, sharing the role with Belinda. We share much of the role, but I particularly focus on supporting volunteers and recruiting and welcoming new ones, and my goal is to try and help make volunteering feel as sustainable as possible and ensure girls and leaders have access to a wide range of experiences and opportunities. Outside of Guiding I\u2019m a civil servant working on issues that impact adult and child victims of exploitation and I enjoy travel, hiking and am always keen for a food market – recommendations always welcome!<\/p>\n

I started volunteering as a Young Leader at Rainbows when I was 14 \u2013 there wasn\u2019t a Ranger Unit in my area at the time, but I wanted to stay involved with Girlguiding having enjoyed my time at Brownies and Guides. I\u2019ve been able to take Girlguiding with me everywhere I\u2019ve been since \u2013 so far I\u2019ve volunteered in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Cambridgeshire East, Essex West, West Glamorgan, and I\u2019ve been in London South West since 2021. I\u2019ve recently taken over as District Commissioner for Clapham and Clapham Park and I\u2019m looking forward to supporting the volunteers in my area.<\/p>\n
Outside of Girlguiding, I\u2019m a Chartered Civil Engineer \u2013 a couple of years ago I wrote an introduction to one of the activities in the Civil Engineering badge pack produced by Girlguiding LaSER and the Institution of Civil Engineers. I love being able to promote Civil Engineering and STEM subjects to our young members.<\/p>\n

Here in Lambeth North I share the role of District Commissioner with Jean. I think this is an example of where flexible Guiding works really well. Although I have a base just over the river in Pimlico much of my time is spent in Salisbury. This means that I may not always be around to visit units but I support the District by having a close online relationship with GO !, ensuring that all the mandatory recruitment checks and training take place, replying to volunteer enquiries and finding the best fit them and always being available by email or Whatsapp. I do nice stuff too like presenting a leader\u2019s Coronation medal or joining the Guides for a sleepover at ICanDo. I am also a PAT \u2013 Pets as Therapy volunteer. Shadow has been to Brownies to demonstrate how to greet a dog-18 times in one evening.<\/p>\n

As joint DC for Lambeth North, I spend a lot of time sharing opportunities, supporting on compliance and processes, visiting units and running the meetings and socials. I share the role of District Commissioner for Lambeth South with Louise. Louise and I both do a bit of everything, but I focus in particular on supporting our Lambeth South volunteers (including young volunteers) and recruiting new ones. I\u2019ve been in Girlguiding since I was a Brownie and, along the way, I\u2019ve also been a Guide, Ranger, Young Leader, Girlguiding Advocate, and Action for Change Network Coach. I\u2019m now a Guide leader, alongside my District Commissioner role. Outside Girlguiding, I\u2019m qualified as a social worker, and I currently work for the NHS in children\u2019s mental health services. I also love theatre, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.<\/p>\n

I first joined Guiding at 7 as a Brownie and later came back as a leader when my niece\u2019s unit needed support \u2013 following in my mum\u2019s footsteps as a Brownie leader. I\u2019m now District Commissioner for Putney as well as a Brownie leader, and what I enjoy most is supporting my district and making sure both girls and volunteers have as many opportunities as possible. Before becoming DC I was International Adviser for London & South West, and I\u2019ve helped lead some amazing trips abroad for Guides and Rangers, including a two-week interrailing adventure across Europe. My Girlguiding volunteer journey began when my daughter\u2019s Guide unit was threatened with closure if someone didn\u2019t step up to lead it! Since then, I haven\u2019t looked back and have enjoyed very many awesome adventures and experiences, made many friends and accepted some huge challenges.<\/p>\n
As one of the county vice-presidents I enjoy supporting our county commissioners using the expertise gained as London South West county commissioner (2006 \u2013 2011) and London and South East England chief commissioner (2011-2016).<\/p>\n

I am Alex, my role is the County Executive Secretary. I first joined Guiding as a Brownie and have enjoyed collecting badges ever since. I was then a Guide in LSW County, at the same unit I have now returned to as a Leader. I love organising fun days out and camps away for my unit. These were some of my favourite memories as a Brownie and Guide and it is great to make new ones as a Leader. Outside of Guiding I am a civil servant, I do jiujitsu, love the theatre and hosting dinner parties for my friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hello! I\u2019m the County\u2019s International Adviser. My role is to promote international opportunities to the county and to support girls and leaders going on trips, for instance with grants, advice and information. I should also be your first port of call if you\u2019re thinking of planning an international trip.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m lucky to have had several memorable international experiences with Girlguiding and this summer (2026) I’m leading a region trip to a jamboree in Sweden. I\u2019m passionate about international adventures big and small (including ones that don\u2019t require any travel!).<\/p>\n

As young leader coordinator, it’s been about sharing techniques and support primarily for leaders who work with young leaders, and I’ve been able to train region young leaders on parts of the YLDP. Hi! My name is Lucy and I have taken over the role of LSW country peer education coordinator in March 2025. I feel passionate about our young people having flexible ways to stay involved with guiding and peer education is a great way to facilitate this! Peer education allows girls to engage in discussion of topics which matter most to them in a safe learning environment with their peers. I’ve been involved with the Jack Petchey awards scheme since 2005. The majority of my role is to gather the nominations for the achievement awards in time to meet the deadlines. These are for girls in guide or ranger units who have been voted by their peers who in some way stand out,. It may be as examples of leadership, resilience, commitment\u00a0or for generally being the helpful, considerate,\u00a0innovative, fun girls who enjoy Guiding.<\/p>\n
Outstanding\u00a0leaders are also recognised in this scheme. Both come with generous monetary awards and I monitor that these are spent according to the rules. Once a year there is a\u00a0Jack Petchey celebration event held in Lambeth Assembly Rooms to which all winners and their families are invited along with Girlguiding and local VIPs. Along with the team from LSW I help to organise this. They gave me an award at the last one hence the photo!<\/p>\n

I joined Girlguiding almost two years ago as a Unit Helper and have had the pleasure of working with several in-person and online units. My background in IT lead me to volunteering to support the county\u2019s website and to provide general IT support.<\/p>\n
With a personal interest in promoting IT in education, I was fortunate to take part in the Brownies’ visit to Google’s London head office. Seeing Brownies engaging with interactive IT resources I have been encouraged to design similar activities for Girlguiding members of all ages. I welcome your ideas to further develop children’s interests in technology.<\/p>\n

I joined Trefoil about 8 years ago when I returned from New Zealand. Initially joining to walk the 75 miles of the Capital Ring with the London Walkers and Talkers. Since then that Guild’s walks have branched further afield,\u00a0 into Kent and Sussex, Aviemore and Belgium. Trefoil offers great\u00a0opportunities\u00a0to get together with like minded\u00a0adults most of whom have been or still are involved as unit leaders, co-ordinators or trainers\u00a0for Girlguiding. LSW has 4 Trefoil Guilds, the Walkers and Talkers, Avid Adventures, East Wandsworth and Lambeth North. As the Trefoil Chair for LSW I attend the LaSER executive meetings passing on information\u00a0from Region and National to our Guilds and also the LSW exec to keep in touch with Girlguiding Districts here and learning\u00a0if there are ways Trefoil can support them.<\/p>\n
