We pride ourselves on our helpful and active members, and when “another organisation” were unable to supply enough helpers for the Jubilee Pageant day, LSW and other neighbouring Counties stepped into the breach to help at several locations on the day, including the VIP embark point at Imperial Wharf in Chelsea.
Emma was one of our county based at Imperial Wharf and said:
“I had such a great day at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Flotilla! It was amazing to be given the once-in a lifetime opportunity, to be a part of such a significant event. It was a real shame the weather wasn’t on our side for the day, but it helped to make it a truly British occasion. From my position in the VIP embarkation area, I was able to do some celebrity spotting as well as playing a role in the smooth functioning of the event. Once we had finished our duties, we chased the parade up the river to Westminster Bridge where we were able to enjoy the view and the rain with some of the other London South West members. Overall, it was a fantastic day; definitely one to tell the grandchildren in the future!”
Our members were helping to check off tickets of those VIPs taking to the water as part of the Pageant including the Mayor of London, William Hague and the Middleton family. Some photos below are of the VIP embarkation point, if you look carefully, there is a certain “Olympic Lord” to be spotted!

UPDATED! There was another pocked of LSW stationed on Waterloo Bridge – “The sight of the Maori paddlers wearing little more than soggy feathers nosing out from under the bridge was unforgettable. So too was the cheerfulness of the other 11 guiders and YL as we struggled to untie bin bags in the freezing rain that followed.”
