Lambeth North District Brownies, Guides, Senior Section and Leaders were invited to celebrate The Diamond Jubilee with St Thomas’s Hospital. We attended an event on Sunday 3rd June at St Thomas’s Hospital and celebrated in style with the staff, patients and family members. When we arrived we were given lunch and an ‘access all areas’ wristband. This meant we could go anywhere, and we did!!! We started out in the garden area, by the fountain, which was our base for the afternoon. We had 1000 Chocolate Brownies to sell and some face’s to paint!

At 2.30pm we made our way over to the river, to get some front row seats for the River Pageant. There were lots of people all around us (Westminster Bridge was packed) and we were opposite The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben (so great views). We waited until 3.30pm when the river pageant came under Lambeth Bridge and we started to see all the boats go past. Some of us thought the first boat would be the Queen’s boat (but soon realised she was half way down the procession!!) The boats were amazing, and there were so many of them. We saw the sea cadets (which some of us knew), did lots of flag waving, lots of shouting and cheering and joined in with some singing!

The fun didn’t stop there; the palace photographers came and took our photos, we met some really important people who run the hospital (especially the man in charge of the money) and sold lots and lots of Chocolate Brownies… and ate a few ourselves. We visited the VIP tent and met lots of leaders from all over England who had come to celebrate this event in London. They gave us badges and told us stories about their own Brownie and Guide units where they live.

The day was enjoyed by all and we felt very special after being treated like VIP’s for the day!! Thank you to the staff at St Thomas’s for inviting us.
